“U.S. No. 1” consists of oranges which meet the following requirements:
Basic requirements:
Discoloration:
Not more than one-third of the surface, in the aggregate, may be affected by discoloration. (See § 51.700.)
Firm;
Mature;
Similar varietal characteristics;
Well formed;
Fairly smooth texture; and,
Color:
Early and midseason varieties shall be fairly well colored.
For Valencia and other late varieties, not less than 50 percent, by count, shall be fairly well colored and the remainder reasonably well colored.
Free from:
Bruises;
Cuts not healed;
Caked melanose;
Decay;
Growth cracks;
Sprayburn;
Undeveloped segments; and,
Wormy fruit.
Not damaged by any other cause.
