(1) (a) Each school district shall be controlled by its local school board and shall be independent of municipal and county governments. (b) The name of each school district created after May 1, 2000, shall comply with Subsection 17-50-103(2)(a).

(2) The local school board shall have direction and control of all school property in the district.

(3) (a) Each school district shall register and maintain the school district's registration as a limited purpose entity, in accordance with Section 67-1a-15. (b) A school district that fails to comply with Subsection (3)(a) or Section 67-1a-15 is subject to enforcement by the state auditor, in accordance with Section 67-3-1.
