Sec. 16.
The grand jury may appoint 1 of their number to be their clerk, to preserve minutes of their proceedings and of evidence given before them; which minutes shall be delivered to the prosecuting officer, when so directed by the grand jury. Whenever it appears to the judge that it is necessary he may appoint a stenographer to take the testimony given before the grand jury.
