(5 ILCS 605/1) (from Ch. 19, par. 150) Sec. 1. The State of Illinois for the benefit of the People of the State and in pursuance of protecting the trust wherein the State holds certain lands for the People, hereby elects and determines to assert and reclaim the title to lands of the State of Illinois now submerged and lands that were formerly submerged, but that have been illegally filled in, reclaimed and occupied, and also any such lands that may have been allotted to any person or corporation, public or private, and which have been illegally filled in, reclaimed and occupied, or which are not used and occupied for the purposes for which they were allotted. (5 ILCS 605/2) (from Ch. 19, par. 151) Sec. 2. The Attorney General of the State of Illinois is hereby directed to make such inquiry of the aforesaid subject matter as he deems desirable and advantageous to protect the interests of the People of the State of Illinois under said trust, and to bring such suit or suits as he may deem necessary to recover such lands, or to protect any such lands from illegal occupation or encroachments.
