(425 ILCS 5/1) (from Ch. 127 1/2, par. 72) Sec. 1. (a) As used in this Act, "high-rise apartment building" means any multiple unit dwelling with more than 3 levels above street level. (b) As used in this Act, "multiple dwelling" means any building containing 6 or more living units other than a hotel, motel or condominium. (c) As used in this Act, "dwelling unit" means a living unit in a high-rise apartment building or multiple dwelling other than a living unit on the ground floor with a direct exit to the outside. (425 ILCS 5/2) (from Ch. 127 1/2, par. 73) Sec. 2. All owners of multiple dwellings and high-rise apartment buildings are required to permanently post within each dwelling unit instructions explaining what procedures to use in the event of a fire. Such instructions shall be posted in a location where they are readily accessible and will be frequently seen by residents of the dwelling unit. Posting on the backside of the door of an upper kitchen cabinet, on the backside of a closet door that opens out, or on the inside of a bathroom door shall be considered compliance with this requirement. The instruction must comply with standards established by the local fire department and include a diagram illustrating all fire exits. (Source: P.A. 82-187.)
